Spring is in the Air
After endless days of grey overcast skies the sun came out this afternoon!
So I went for a gentle stroll around the village, armed as always with my camera
These snowdrops are the first signs that Spring is just round the corner.

Winter Waterfall
I tried to make the most of an overnight dusting of snow today.
It didn’t stay around long and had melted within a few hours.
The picture is of the waterfall at Bowlees, in the North Pennines, framed by snow covered branches.

A Red Rose
Along with my normal grocery shopping I picked up a punch of roses at the local supermarket this week-end.
Apart from looking nice on the mantle piece they also gave me a different subject to photograph.

Work in progress
This is a work in progress picture. I have this idea for a picture taken whilst driving my car.
My camera has an Intervalometer which automatically captures a sequence of images at specified intervals over a specified time period.
So I can drive safely whilst at the same time my camera automatically takes pictures.
This is my favourite picture so far.

St. Mary's Lighthouse
North of Whitley bay, Tyne & Wear, is St. Mary's Island with its famous lighthouse.
Built in 1896 to aid coastal navigation it is no longer a working lighthouse, but now houses a museum.
I have waited till all the light of the day has nearly gone before taking this long exposure.

Carlisle Floods
The City of Carlisle was completely cut off by flood waters yesterday after a month's rain fell in 24 hours.
Heavy rains flooded homes and severe gales cut off power to thousands of homes.
RAF helicopters were drafted in to help rescue people as Carlisle battled against its worst ever floods.
I managed to enter the city at first light this morning.
These pictures tell the story of a devastated city which will cost millions of pounds to repair.

Severe gales
Severe gales with winds of up to 80mph have caused havoc today across the North East of England.
In the most powerful storm so far this winter, a number of major roads were blocked.
Below are just three pictures of places we managed to reach by car.

First Picture of 2005
The first picture of the New Year is always a challenge.
Where, What, How, When
I wanted an image that would acknowledge the world’s worst natural disaster, reflect the sense of grief and loss, whilst also having a sense of hope.
So I finally settled on a picture of some candles which I set up just to take this photograph.
Please continue to pray for those in the midst of this disaster as it continues unfold hour by hour.
